Behind the Screens

Where certain manufacturers claim that their products reduce noise levels within the office environment, the DIN Rating (or Noise Transference Level or NTL) is based on testing the screens in the same manner as a full height partition system. Screens are not tailor made and fitted floor to ceiling, wall to wall, therefore the alleged positive results shown in such instances are both irrelevant and misleading.

Where certain manufacturers Freestanding Screens are utilised to reflect sound which should then be absorbed by other forms of noise control such as:

Softening of hard interior surfaces by use of carpet, fabric and window coverings; control, relocation or replacement of noisy machines and /or staff; introduction of a white noise system;

Utilising a screen in isolation will not improve office acoustics.

Visual Acoustics

Is a consideration most people ignore, under normal circumstances if the noisy machine and / or member of staff is not visible, the irritation level reduces.
